Our main goal is to save horses. To be able to do that we need to find wonderful homes for the ones we have so we have a stall for another horse that would die without our help. Space and time is limited, the day they move on with their lives will be so bittersweet but we know we will have given them another chance at life and this will keep us going.
General Guidelines for Adoption (revisable )
Each horse we adopt out must have an equine companion at their new home – Horses are herd animals and are much happier and healthier with a friend.
Each horse must have access to clean 3 sided shed or stall 24/7 – Each horse is different (some will do well in a run in / others will require an individual stall) and will have specific needs stated in their bio however, every horse will need shelter to protect them from the weather.
The horse will always have access to clean, unfrozen water.
The horse must have access to daily turnout
The horse will have proper equine care:
Regular feed, farrier, veterinary and other care that is standard for a healthy equine. Veterinary services include, but are not limited to, yearly vaccinations, treatment for Lameness, colic, accidents and injuries.
If, at any time, the horse / donkey does not receive proper care as stated above, Bagaduce River Equine Rescue reserves the legal right to pick up or have the equine returned immediately without delay and prior notification and the adoption will be null and void. Any expensed accrued, including travel and veterinary care) will be the responsibility of the adopter. The equine will be treated humanely, and under no circumstances will the adoptive home tolerate abuse of any kind towards the animal. Bagaduce River Equine Rescue retains the right to check / visit at any time / without prior notice and retain the right to take the equine back if it is felt that the horse/donkey is not being cared for as the regulations above state.
No animal adopted from Bagaduce River Equine Rescue will ever be bred. If the animal is a female, the adopter agrees to never breed the horse or put her in proximity to a stud, either by accident or on purpose. All male horses will be gelded.
Adopter gives BRER staff permission to visit adopted horse at any time, without prior notice. • If Adopter moves the horse without advising BRER as stated above, the adoption is voided, and ownership will revert back to BRER, except in the event of an emergency where the horse’s health may be endangered if not moved. Should that occur, BRER must be notified within 24 hours.
There will be no future transfer of ownership without contacting Bagaduce River Equine Rescue. If there is room for the horse, it will be returned to the rescue, otherwise, the rescue will assist the adopter in finding a new, suitable home which must be approved by BRER. No transfer or sale of the horse to a third party may be completed without BRERs written approval. The adopter understands and agrees that neither they nor any other owner of the horse / donkey is permitted to sell the horse at auction or to an entity that sells animals to slaughterhouses anywhere in the world.
All horses adopted from BRER are without any written, implied, or expressed guarantees for behavior or performance. Horses are unpredictable animals and as such their behavior can result in injury to people or other horses. Nothing shall be inferred or implied except which is written in this contract. BRER takes no responsibility for injury of human or property incurred as a result of the adopted animal when not on Bagaduce River Equine Rescue property.
BRER will reveal everything we know about the animals condition but we make no guarantees regarding future soundness, injury or other potential issues. Adopter agrees to take responsibility for the animal as is and to get veterinary care for any issues that arise after adoption.
