I guess June is the month for changes.. June 2018, I had a small lapse of sanity and I pushed a button…X3! –And so the Texas trio got busted out of the killpen. We celebrated a 1 year freedom ride day on the 12th. 1 year later and Birdie has found the home she deserves. Her new name is Naja and she lives in Washington Maine with Tina Hall. Tina came to the barn several times to work and play with Birdie, making sure it was a good fit. She participated in a clinic we had with Ron Johnson and learned some of the techniques that we have been using with Birdie, making the transition smoother. Mary and I are so happy for Birdie and Tina and we will always be in touch with them, never out of our thoughts and always available if we can help with anything.

Speaking of the clinic with Ron Johnson (R Jays Farm Horsemanship Communication), several people came to watch Birdie and Tommy get their turns with Ron. We met Kristen Kramer EQDT, an equine dentist. It was nice to see someone who was open to new ways of handling horses , we can never have too many tools in our pocket. Maybe we can have a clinic with Kristen sometime this summer? Let me know if there is any interest. Oh, I get babbling and off the subject…..back to Ron and the clinic. He worked with Birdie first, and then had Tina come in and work with her and he instructed on different techniques. We all saw a bond forming between Tina and Birdie during this time. When Tommy came into the ring, well, lets just say there was a bit of a kerfunckle and before we knew it Ron had been working with Tommy for several hours. “He had been throught something very traumatic” time patience and time, and a lot of help from Ron will be our plan.
Earlier in June I opened up the back pasture and it was great to see them all standing out there, healthy and happy. Tommy can go in and out as he pleases… kinda a selfish thing on my part because he is a pig in the stall.

We had our tshirt fundraiser, bringing in $379.00 – We didn’t reach our goal but it will certainly help with hay this summer. Thank you all that got one and I hope you get asked about the rescue when you wear them.
The day Birdie left, we were very worried about how Tommy was going to react. They were definitely a couple and he never did well with her out of his sight. I started him on hemp pellets several days before she left and I am so pleased to tell you that he hardly neighed at all. He as very calm and level headed, Chester would whinny once in a while but then look at Tommy who would be munching on hay and Chester would stop and go on with what he as doing. Since I have weaned him down to a very small dose, he seems to be doing great. We will keep him on It until the farrier comes to reshoe him. The shoes he got on last month definitely helped but he threw one weeks ago and the other just came off the other day. Thank you Mary for being such a ‘tracker’… She found them both in the pasture.. That will save us a lot of money. For now, Tommy is very lame so we are only working on focus and giving me all of his attention. I do not want him moving any more then he needs to until the shoes go back on. Chester on the other hand is doing really well in the ring. He does best with no halter. He can walk / trot/ turn around / back up / cross front legs over / yield hind end …. Turn and come in… all without a halter on. What a smart boy.

We are working on plans to do some demonstrations / clinics at the end of the summer – a “horsey” barn sale and maybe a silent auction for a clinic day. The show season is going strong so have a great summer and when the season is finished drop off your outgrown / slightly used show equipment and donate it to the barn sale
