Red
why Red hasnt found his person yet is beyond me.. my only thought is that his destiny lays in the hands of the person who hasnt yet met him, his foerever person, his soulmate, and until that happens he will stay with us. When Red first came to us i will admit, i was a bit tentative - he was big and bold and very smart. Over the past few months this boy has won my heart over. Going for hand walks away from the herd, he is a bit forward on the way but about 5 minutes in, with quiet expectations, he settles and thoroughly enjoys our walks, the time i spend with him always makes me smile. The trailer remains a big boogy man, he runs on, stands for 2 seconds and literally runs off backwards - again, time and patience will help im sure, he is not conditioned to expect patience, i would have to guess he has been trained very well and expected to perform at that level, not always allowing for new experiences to sink in before he feels comfortable with them. Red is the horse that, when i look out into the herd, everyone else is doing what they do, eating, sleeping, playing.... Red is looking at me. Its kinda eerie sometimes when you scan the field and come upon eyes looking back at you hahahaha. He loves to play , he loves attention, he needs way more time then he is getting here - i feel like we are maintaining and building trust but that trust would be so much more meaningful if it were being built with his forever person. Reds sway back scares alot of people im sure - he does need a lighter person, a person who wants to trail ride a few times a week but hand walk alot - This guy would make a perfect partner to someone that wants to ride a bit, play with liberty a bit, hand walk a lot and maybe even teach him to pull a cart - something that wouldnt bother his back at all. We have had the chiro check him over and the conclusion is he isnt in any pain but he new person would definatley need to keep him stretching and light riding - he is very smart, thrives on "good boy' and has the forward confidence to be someones well rounded partner - we just have to find that person. :) We did check for cushings - NEGATIVE !!!! yea :) we did a full month of ulcer treatment, not that he had any signs of ulcers but his personalitily is conducive to tummy issues and we wanted to rule out any discomfort before putting alot of expectations on him. He seems to have mellowed a bit, was that the ulcer guard or just settling in here - who knows but he is evolving into the horse i would have wanted if the rescue didnt exist - he is simply a fun horse to hang out with

November 2020
As the days past, Reds personality changed. We saw what his previous owner had seen, he was making increasingly dangerous decisions. If you had Reds attention and required him to think before acting... he was a perfect gentleman who was so much fun to be around but if he was left to act on his own thoughts, his big lug of a body moved before his mind could think. Red made life in the herd an experience. Red was laid to rest on a warm afternoon beside Ralphie. I will forever miss this boy. One of the ones I feel like I let down - I just couldnt quiet get through to him that life could slow down and he would still be ok. I hope I see you again someday Red
