Ginger
Our heads have yet to wrap around the string of events that happened yesterday. Before we even introduced Ginger to the world, just days after making it to safety, in the blink of an eye her life was snuffed out. It was a routine veterinary procedure, a freakish accident, a violent reaction, and she was gone. Her life paralleled that of Ginger in Black Beauty – used by almost every person who touched her life – there may have been those that touched her with a loving hand but they too showed her the ultimate betrayal by passing her on – giving up all control or thought as to if she would be hungry, standing in the cold rain, head hung low and never knowing if or when it might end – the energy and will to live was sucked out by humans and in the end it was too much. Gingers soft eye was so wary, a new place, new herd, new people, it was going to take a while for her to trust. As she lay in the driveway, all I could think of was how she suffered, how everyone yesterday was holding her and willing the life back into her and how she just had no more to give. In the last few moments our vet helped her pass but Ginger was on her way – ready to run the pastures on the other side of the rainbow bridge, ready to live the life she deserved and ready to be free of people. Free to be happy, free to never be in pain, free to never be hungry or thirsty – Simply free
Gingers legacy will live on – because of her 3 others are safe. Because of her we were at the right place at the right time. Because of Ginger, Nelly is eating her soaked cubes and running in her paddock. Because of Ginger, Hermoine is free to gallop in her field, free to grow up happy and healthy. Because of Ginger, Shiloh has a chance to live Mary, Erin, Dennis, Sarah and I will never forget yesterday – but we all know that because of Ginger we will continue to do what we do. |
