Humane Euthanasia
When is the right time? How will I know? Maybe tomorrow they will be better. Lets give them the summer.
BRER strongly believes there are far worse things than a humane death. To be able to give your old friend a peaceful ending is a final act of love. To ensure they will never be hungry or scared, never be forgotten or suffer; this is a gift that is only you can provide and only you will know the depth of love it takes to make this decision. It is one of the hardest decisions we have to make when it comes to our 4-legged best friends. We are often asked to take in an elderly horse that the owner can no longer care for. Each situation is different but many times we suggest euthanasia as an alternative choice.
Elderly and physically limited horses are also far more likely to end up at auctions, where they run the risk of being sold for slaughter. Euthanasia can be an incredible gift, allowing our beloved equine partners the dignity of a peaceful passing, free from pain, confusion or fear. (Horses with Hope)
We often see horses that are very old and lame go to a dealer or auction because the decision to euthanize is too expensive or too difficult to organize. If, with the support of your veterinarian, euthanasia is an option, we would like to help make that decision easier for those that need it. We have a limited yearly budget that we have set aside to help with the cost of euthanasia performed by a certified veterinarian. We will also be present at the euthanasia if that is needed, for support or to stand in for the owner.
Donations up to $500 will be sent to your veterinarian directly. All other costs are your responsibility. This offer is for Maine residents only. This offer will also end when the fund is gone for the year.
Please call with any questions, if we can help in any way and please, share this with friends that may need the help.
