Bagaduce River Equine Rescue
May Newsletter
I am going to try to keep everyone updated throughout the summer with a monthly newsletter. This will show you the progress we are making with each horse, with our organization and with the goal of educating the community about equine care, neglect and how we can all help. It will also keep us totally transparent regarding our financial records. Thank you all for donating in the past – It is because of you we are able to help these horses.
If you are receiving this newsletter, you already know the Texas Trio and Blossom. You can read our full story on our website www.bagaduceriverequinerescue.weebly.
It’s hard to believe another month has gone by. It seems like yesterday that I was chipping ice from the buckets and this morning I was applying bug spray. (boy Tommy has a lot of body surface).

Bill Solman, the lame horse expert stopped by yesterday to see if he could help Tommy's ongoing lameness. Ruled out ringbone with xrays so it looks like navicular syndrome - he has some very expensive fancy high heels on (already lost one in the pasture!). He was showing some improvement before he tossed one of them. Andrew came to put it back on…. And Tommy would have nothing to do with it…. Ugh….. he is getting very anxious these days – ordered some hemp / cbd pellets – I will let you know how it works.
Throughout the month of May, Andrew Birdsall our fabulous farrier came 3 TIMES to trim Blossom and every time she outwitted me…. Finally got her done a while back but boy, she is one devilish donkey!
Thought it was time to remeasure Chester – seemed like he had gotten taller but how could he since he is already fully grown? Well – he went from 14.1 – 15 hands! Still slight but muscle and strengthening pasturns have helped turn him into a real horse.

Blossom thought it was pretty funny when Tommy turned into a paint!
I opened up the back pasture for the summer – Tommy can now go in and out all night.
Chester still has days that he is more anxious then others. When he first came he would bite himself – chase his tail and curl up like a codfish when he got confused/ bored or anxious. He doesn’t do it much anymore but when he does it makes me very sad. I have been taking Chester on “trail walks” and he is doing great, we even took the dog with us the other day – trying to get him used to the normal things that he missed out on in his first 7 years. – what progress he has made – He loves people, he loves attention and he is so proud of himself when he does something right – I know he too will find his next chapter some day
“I don’t think she can see me “

Im sure June is going to bring more adventures – we will celebrate the Texas Trios 1 year anniversary since their Freedom Ride – that doesn’t seem possbile. More training for Chester and Tommys lameness will hopefully be under control and Birdie will be on to her new life
